95 Birthday Candles Cause a Commotion
Soon to be, 95 year-old Mabel Mc Collough was celebrating her upcoming birthday with the First United Methodist Church women's group. There were 95 candles on her carrot flavored birthday cake, and when Mc Collough blew her candles out, a big cloud of smoke formed. The smoke set off a smoke alarm in the building and 24 firefighters arrived as a result.
Fire Chief Lonnie Lamb said, "In my 23 years on the job, I've seen a lot of thing set off a fire alarm, but I don't think I've ever heard of one going off because of a birthday cake." The firefighters could not stay for the rest of the party, however they did have their pictures taken with Mc Collough, whose birthday is on Sept. 27.
