SCANDAL AT WOMEN'S MARATHON
60 SECONDS
OVER 20 THOUSAND WOMEN PARTICIPATED IN SUNDAY'S NIKE WOMEN’S MARATHON IN SAN FRANCISCO.
24-YEAR-OLD ARIEN O'CONNELL, A FIFTH-GRADE TEACHER FROM NEW YORK CITY, CAME OUT ON TOP, HAVING THE FASTEST TIME OF THE MARATHON, AT 2:55:11.
HOWEVER, SHE WAS NOT ANNOUNCED THE WINNER.
OFFICIALS CLAIM O’CONNELL COULDN’T BE DECLARED
THE WINNER BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T RUN WITH THE ‘ELITE’
GROUP THAT WAS GIVEN A 20-MINUTE HEAD START.
THE OFFICIALS OVERLOOKED HER FINISHING TIME. WHICH WAS FASTER THAN THE WOMAN WHO WON FIRST PLACE BY SIX MINUTES.
NIKE REALIZES THEY MADE A MISTAKE. O'CONNELL WILL BE RECOGNIZED AS A WINNER OF THE RACE, ALONG THE ELITE WINNER.
